nice statistical analysis Dan. My wine buying was curtailed about 90% since becoming unemployed. Suffice it to say, I did purchase Peay and SQN (not the full lot). Oh and I bought but will be reimbursed for a 2007 Beringer Private Reserve.
After reviewing my Cellar Tracker account, I saw that 10% of my purchases came from 1 bricks and mortar retailer. I'm not sure how this compares to the previous year percentage-wise, since my online ordering has increased due to finally getting on a mailing list (or 2 or 3).
The ten percent retailer... www.grapesthewineco.com
Edit
After further review (to use a football term), I see that I spent the same $$ with Grapes in 2011 as I did in 2010.
My mailing list spend doubled.![]()
I'm not if I should be thanking Schrader and Kapcsandy.![]()
I like talking about miles and points, but I also like Wine Talk.

My purchases were down in 2011... trying to get my wine cellar under control. But Grapes and Vinopolis are certainly my favorite retailers.
In fact I spent more in actual dollars just in two auction purchases this time around. Probably will resume buying in 2012 and probably will favor Dan and Daniel when I do (with all those great 2009 and 2010 Rhone reds coming in... how can I resist? To say nothing of the best of the latest wines from Oregon -- I continue to be amazed at the quality of the Oregon PNs, and as the ones I own age a bit, they just get better and better...)

Last minute update: with seconds left in 2011, Dan offered me the 2007 Rayas and you know what? I couldn't possibly pass on that wine. So Vinopolis galloped from behind along the inside rail and takes the win just as 2011 reached its close! A breathtaking finish...

...and I thought Iowa caucuses were right down the wire!

yup.
we moved through all of our 2007. doubt there is more in the pipeline.
I buy from a lot of different places, 31 retailers in all for 2011. However, Grapes The Wine Company did come out as my top store of 2011 at 4.7% of purchases.
I find that I usually know what I want and the hardest part is finding the right retailer with a fair price. Dan usually gets me with the e-mails and I especially like stopping in the store (but it's not very close to home). I also keep myself on a strict budget, in fact, my spending was nearly identical to 2010.

Plus, Grapes sells wines they actually can deliver.... Vinopolis too. In contrast, while I can usually get some of these wines at better prices from certain Internet sources we all could name, it isn't always clear that they will actually deliver on what they sold. This has me doing way more business with them. Used to be that I just went for lowest price.
Now I keep a mental list: places I trust. Other stores are on that list too (for example, Rare Wine Company, Garagist, TCWC). And only buy from sources on that list, or direct from the winery.

This has me doing way more business with safer sources, and almost none with them. Used to be that I just went for lowest price.

I don't buy much locally. Just don't tend to find what I'm looking for.
