Default TN: 2 days with a lot of Chianti Classico in Copenhagen.

The Chianti Classico Consorzio arrived Thursday with 42 producers in Copenhagen, great tasting at Børsen.

I picked up my good friend Paolo of www.caparsa.it at CPH Airport and we went to the fair.
Disclaimer: I sell Paolos wines in Denmark.

The Consorzio had told the producers to "only" bring their Chianti Classico, no Supertuscans was allowed.

Børsen in Copenhagen, the old stock exchange:

I tasted a lot of wines, but there was some very special producers there, amont others Felsina, Fontodi, Casa Emma, Casaloste etc. Many of the producers had Merlot in their Chianti Classico, I hope in the future the Consorzio will change this, a shame.

A little producer called La Mirandola was the surprice of the day, a Chianti Classico for 9€-10€, They "only" make Chianti Classico and they presented their 2003 and 2004. 5000 bottles produced, 95% Sangiovese and 5% Colorino.

    Chianti Classico 2004, La Mirandola:
Ruby red, a little closed in the nose, spicy herbs and minerels, some leather.
Long soft after taste, the best QPR of the day.

    Lorenzo of La Mirandola:

In the other end was Fattoria Nittardi, my favorite wines of the day. They had brought their Chainti Classico 2003, 2004 and Riserva 2003.

    Chianti Classico 2004, Fattoria Nittardi:
Ruby read, outstanding concentration, cherry fruit, youthful tannins.
Wow, never seen this producers wine before.

I was standing next to Casa Emma, great fun, so I tasted their Chainti Classico 2004 and the Riserva 2003, heavy juice here, great wines.

    Børsen inside:

    Paolo and some friends:

In the evening the Consorzio has arranged a dinner for all the producers, importers, journalist and private people.

135 people at Restaurant Kanalen, and a "help yourself" table with approx 55-60 different Chainti Classico:

Later in the evening I went outside to smoke, a lot of producers was standing at a car, it was Tomasso of Vecchie Terre di Montefili who presented his Supertuscans "Anfiteatro" and Bruno di Rocca 2003. He called me and I tasted both wines, no wonder Tomasso recieve top score in every Italian guide, great wines.

    Friday the 27. October.

Winemakers dinner with the wines of Paolo in the Wineceller in Copenhagen, we tasted the following wines:

Chianti Classico ''Caparsino'' 1998 and 2003
Chianti Classico ''Caparsino'' Riserva 1999, 2000 and 2001
    Chianti Classico ''Doccio a Matteo'' Riserva 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2003.
Vendemmia Tardiva Caparsa IGT 2003 A very special wine.

    Ciao
    Birger

When Birger picks you up at the Copenhagen airport,
you feel at home within 3 minutes of your arival. He takes you to the airport bar where few drinks are waiting for you and all the troubles associated with the flight are forgotten!
If you ever visit Copenhagen, I recomend STRONGLY - make friends with Birger first!
